Intoduction to Drawing

Lecturer & Tutor : Mr Akmal Nordin

Introduction to technical drawings is a module for foundation students who wish to pursue architecture and quantitative surveying. This module aims to introduce students to the basics of drawings in construction industry. It engages students with different types of drawings, basic principles, conventions and techniques in drawings, as well as applying knowledge and skills into real life examples. This helps students to understand better in technical drawings as means of communication in construction industry. In this module, students are assessed by 3 assignments which provides different exposure and learning experiences on drawings, with lectures and tutorial classes carried out weekly.

Conclusion of ITD Journey

Throughout this 15 weeks of ITD lectures and tutorials, I would like to summarize this journey as rewarding and fun. I was glad that I was able to see improvements in my drawings after each assignment. From knowing nothing much about technical drawings and just able to see sample drawings shown during lectures and tutorials, I am more confident in producing sets of drawings based on requirements with the knowledge and skills learnt in the past three assignments. Now, I have a better insight to read and produce own drawings with proper measurements, conventions and symbols. I understand that all drawing conventions and details in a piece of drawing are very important, as drawings are means of communication in the construction industry. A single mistake in drawings can lead to a big failure during construction. Thus, it is a must to be precise and accurate when producing construction drawings. Besides, constant practice allows me to be more skillful in using drawing tools, especially scale ruler, french curve, pigment pen as well as improving my architectural letterings. I would not have as much exposure I gained without this module. This module is very useful for us as future architecture students.

Lastly, I would also like to thank my lecture, which is also my tutor, Mr Akmal for your guidance and advices throughout the semester. The lecture inputs are very informative and useful; the feedbacks from Mr Akmal during tutorial classes and messages are also constructive and beneficial for improvements. Thanks for always giving us tips and advices on construction drawings, as well as motivating us during this hard times of having online classes. I am really grateful and appreciate to have Mr Akmal guiding us and preparing interesting yet useful online classes. Thank you, sir!
