Assignment 1
Introduction to Technical Drawings
TASK
In this individual assignment, we are to produce a set of drawings of item selected in A4 papers using pencils only. The assignment exposed us to the basic types of drawings: plan view, elevation view and section view. The objective of this is to impart understandings on different types of drawings and ability to express three-dimensional object into two-dimensional orthographic drawings. A set of 5 orthogonal drawings is manually completed.
PROGRESS
After understanding the assignment brief, we are to select an item to produce a set of 1:1 orthogonal drawings. The size of the item chosen should be smaller than A4 size, as considering the space allocated for the title block. My item chosen was an alarm clock. Although the alarm clock looks simple, the reason I chose this is it has an interesting shape and some details. During tutorial class, we are to show pictures of our chosen item for approval from tutor, Mr Akmal. My chosen item, the alarm clock is approved and finalised.
Week 3
After finalizing my chosen item to draw, we are to provide pictures of the selected item: 1 Top view and 3 Elevation views. These pictures are taken with my mobile phone with plain, clear background.
TOP VIEW
FRONT VIEW
REAR VIEW
RIGHT VIEW
We are also to draft out the title block with architectural letterings. This is my first time writing architectural letterings and I feel I need to practice more for improvements
I also start measuring the dimensions of the alarm clock in order to produce the drawings. With the dimensions obtained, I was able to start producing drafts of the requires drawings.
Week 4
During this independent week, we are given ample of time to focus on our assignment. I managed to produce drafts of top view, front view, side view, elevation view and section view as required.
Details
In order to draw section view, I opened the alarm clock to have a closer look of the interior structure. Besides, I tried my best to draw the detailed parts, especially the numbering on the clock.
Week 5
Feedbacks from Ms Iffa
I received feedbacks from Mr Akmal and Ms Iffa when I showed my progress during tutorial class as well as through WhatsApp messages. From the feedbacks, I encountered a major problem where the top view drawings I produced looks 3-dimensional which is in perspective view instead of plan view, which should be 2-dimensional. This is because my selected alarm clock has different heights in front and back, making it to look slanted. After discussing with my tutor, I made slight amendments. Moreover, I made improvements based on the feedbacks and check through my drawings to ensure all requirements are fulfilled before submission.

REFLECTION
After completing the first assignment, I have gain some basic knowledge on how to produce technical drawings by using the correct methods and proper drawing tools. As a student who has been working on artistic drawings for most of the times, drawing technically is a new challenging experience as drawings should be drawn in a specific and more logical way. I was also first introduced to architectural letterings. Throughout the process of completing the assignment, I have gained knowledge and skills of drawings from lecture inputs, feedbacks for myself and peers from tutor and also through constant practices. For example, the use of different line weights, types of lines, use of different drawing tools, plotting dimensions, symbols and more. I do understand that more practices are needed in order to get improvements as practice makes perfect.
