ENBE Project 1(a)

The Nature Journal

TASK

The Nature Journal is an individual assignment. We are required to watch the movie documentary ‘EARTH’ 2007 and to present factual information, personal experiences, observation and thoughts. Students need to sketch out and describe in detail of elements that you personally investigated through the documentary.

WORK PROGRESS

To start the project, I had to watch the movie documentary "Earth 2007" by Disney Nature on YouTube. It is an 1hour 35 minutes 49 seconds documentary about the Earth. While enjoy watching the documentary, I jotted down the different species of flora and fauna along with the natural phenomena shown in the video.

After finalizing the elements to be shown in the journal, I started to research to gather information online. Researching information online is pretty easy and convenient. However, it is quite challenging when it comes to planning and drafting out the drawings and words in a well organized infographic style. Therefore, I went to the library and the book store to seek for some references of actual nature journal. To be honest, it was very useful and informative.

LIBRARY AND BOOKSTORE VISIT

I started off the journal by the cover page. Inspired one of the books I found in the bookstore, I named my nature journal, "Dawn to Dark". It represents the different facets of the Earth shown in the documentary from dawn to dark, from north to south, from spring to winter as well as from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. Then, I sketched and painted the cover page, presenting different interesting elements on Earth in small boxes.

Next, I started to sketch using HB pencil. After ensuring no more changes to be made, I continued to paint and color my illustrations with different media, mainly water color and color pencils. All the handwritings and outlines are then completed by using felt tip pens and brush pen. Since I decided to paint the illustrations, I spent a long time to finish them nicely. After completing the journal, I did some final touch up before submission.

REFLECTION

By completing this project, I am able to describe the different characteristics of nature by exploring the basic elements such as natural topography, landscape. Not only that, I also learn to communicate ideas through observation and using different media, tools and techniques to present information of the study of natural environment.

Besides, I have learnt how to transfer my thoughts and feelings into words and graphics where I can unleash my creativity in the way that I am to think how to make my nature journal an interesting yet pleasant one to read. This has taught me on how to present information in an infographic way which is clear and informative to the readers. In addition, I also did explore on different medias in order to make my work interesting.

Throughout the project, I have learnt and understand more about the natural elements. In the video, I have a chance to see the different facets of the beautiful mother nature. There was a sentence which I most remember, "It's not too late to make a difference". I find this meaningful as our Earth needs us to make changes now. All lives share the only Earth as our home. We should appreciate, love and take the responsibilities to protect our home before it is too late.

In conclusion, I enjoyed and gained a lot throughout process of creating the Nature Journal.
