Final Project

Inside Out Head Space Cube

TASK

In the final project, we are to design a space for our client, which is our assigned character from the Disney Pixar movie "Inside Out". The space designed should be related to the character and applied with design elements, design principles, ergonomics, scale, proportion, form, and space manipulation. A 30cm x30cm x 30cm model, an A1 presentation board and a prerecorded verbal presentation video is required as final outcome.

My assigned character from the movie "Inside Out" is Sadness. She is one of my favourite character in the movie when I first watched the movie few years ago. In order to design a space for her, I rewatched the movie to study and research on her personalities, traits, behavioral actions and her story.

After analyzing my assigned character, Sadness, I start developing bubble diagram and sketches by introducing my inspiration and design concept.

I transform my 2D sketches and spaces proposed into mock-up models with simple materials. The test outs helps me to visualize the spaces created and whether the spaces really works.

Moving on, I further develop my sketches in order to create my final model. Weekly feedbacks and advices from my tutor helped me a lot to develop my ideas and understandings in order to improve my sketches and models. I proceeded with my final model making. Adjustments and improvements are also made during the final model making.

After finishing my final model, I started to work on my A1 presentation board using Canva.

Both final model and presentation board are done. I proceed with recording the verbal presentation video using phone and editing with InShot.

REFLECTION

ITSD FP Reflection

This final assignment is rewarding and challenging, yet I enjoyed very much. Instead of just focusing on design elements and principles, we are to channel all knowledge and skills acquired through previous assignments, lecture inputs and tutor's guidance into creating a space for assigned character based on their characteristics and needs, and even exploring ergonomics. It is a combination of all we learnt and further developments into spatial design. There was a time when I faced a big problem. The outcome of my mock-up model could not present my initial concept and ideas well. It was different from my initial sketch and this makes me panic and disappointed. After receiving feedbacks and advices from my tutor, I was able to rethink and further develop on my sketches and model. I learnt that content creates form, which is said in the video shown by my tutor. When looking into content, forms happens very naturally. And the space is well-developed instead of  just form driven. In conclusion, this assignment is really a rewarding one.
