Project 2

Design Elements

TASK

Project 2 is a continuation from Project 1. With the basic understandings of design elements and principles, we are to produce 8 mini models(10cm x 10cm x 10cm) by applying 8 design principles: balance, rhythm, emphasis, movement, variety, contrast, harmony and unity into each. Then, we are to come up with a final hybrid model(20cm x 20cm x 20cm)by combining various design principles and manipulating forms through exploration of design principles in architecture and spatial design.

PROGRESS

Sketches & drawings of shape extracted from patterns in Project 1.

I chose to extract an isosceles triangle from the patterns in Project 1. The initial triangle is then transformed to explore different shapes, forms and orientations.

SHAPE TRANSFORMATION SKETCHES

I started my sketches for the 8 mini models with different design principles, which are balance, rhythm, emphasis, movement, variety, contrast, harmony and unity. After finalizing the sketches, I proceed with model making. The general materials used are compressed foam board, mounting board, ivory board and modelling board.

Moving on, I continue with the final hybrid model(20cm x 20cm x 20cm). The three design principles to be applied in the final hybrid are Rhythm, Movement and Harmony.

REFLECTION

ITSD P2 Reflection

With the knowledge and skills gained from the previous assignment, I was able to have a better understanding on applying design elements and principles into my ideation an design. This assignment truly helps me to develop further into design theory, spatial design and model making. We are required to make 8 mini models and a final 20cm x 20cm x 20cm hybrid model of various design principles within only 4 weeks time. Time management is really important. Besides, it was quite tough when it comes the making the final hybrid model, as various design principles is applied and overall content presented and the balanced proportion of the model as whole needed needed to be considered well. All in all, this assignment does help me to explore and understand the manipulating of design principles into spatial design.

TAYLOR'S GRADUATES CAPIBILITIES

Picture11.png

THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS

Learn to think out of the box when encountering problems. Due to the pandemic, it was hard for me to get materials for model making. Thus, I tried my best to utilize the materials left to complete the project.

Picture15.png

LIFELONG LEARNING

Through practices of model making along two projects, I was able to enhance more on model making and get improvements. Knowledge and skills gained are thoughtfully applied in my design. Practice makes perfect.

INTRAPERSONAL SKILL

Learn to balance time between different assignments from different modules. This project has a short duration and there is a total of 9 models needed to be done. Well-planned schedule plays an important role to accomplish the project successfully.
